Description

A detailed description of this species can be found in the Bean interactive key to eastern Australian species of Solanum at http://delta-intkey.com/solanum/www/eremophi.htm

Distribution and ecology

An inadequately known species, recorded from scattered localities in S.A., N.S.W. and VIC.

Relationships

The name has been frequently misapplied to other species and for some years NSW and Vic populations of S. eremophilum  were mistakenly referred to S. adenophorum .

Possibly a hybrid between S. petrophilum F. Muell. and S. esuriale Lindl. according to Symon (1977, 1981), but this suggestion is not supported by Bean (2002).

Reference: Bean, A.R. (2002). The identity of "Solanum adenophorum " in New South Wales and Victoria. ASBS Newsletter  111: 6; Symon, D.E. (1977). The rediscovery of Solanum eremophilum F.Muell. South Aust. Naturalist 51: 50-51; Symon, D.E. (1981). A revision of the genus Solanum in Australia. Journal of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens 4: 1-367.

S. eremophilum is considered by Bean (2004) to be a member of the S. hystrix group of subgen. Leptostemonum.
